JAINITUOS FILM REVIEWS – Toy Story 4 – Nice, original, and pretty touching.

Hey Guys.

I am back with another review. That’s right. I just came back from the cinema, and I am eager to write about my thoughts of this fantastic new entry of Toy Story. Hope you guys are in for a fantastic and beautiful ride.

So… here it comes.

THE WORD THAT INSPIRES TOY STORY FOR ME… LOVE

First and foremost, I must say that this is definitely one of the franchises that I love the most in this world. As a matter of fact, I deeply love all of the Pixar Franchises (with the exception of Cars), and pretty much like you guys, I grew up with Toy Story. I saw it when I was approximately twelve years old for the first time, and even though it did not make me a Pixar fan straight away, it surely redefined the way I was seeing animation on that time, more than Reboot (With all due respect with the fans of the latter). Then Toy Story 2 came, and it blew my mind once more. I loved Jessie, and every time I hear When She Loved Me, by Sarah McLachlan, I break in tears. And I just can’t forget her tear-jerking words at the end of the song.

«You never forget kids like Emily, or Andy. But they forget you»

It makes me guilty for what I did with my old toys. It was an amazing improvement toward the first movie, and I still believe is one of the greatest Pixar movies of history, and one of the greatest animated movies ever done. One more thing. Remember this name… GALYN SUSMAN. We are in her debt.

But… Did Toy Story 3 would surpass its predecessor? The answer… was YES!!! It brought us the heartbreaking moment in which Andy had to move on, leave his childhood behind and go to college. It was everything a third entry needed to be, creative, poignant, intense, and visually beautiful.

In other words… The Return of the King of Pixar movies. But I think you should check it by yourself.

Having said that, time to go with Toy Story 4.

A NEW GREAT ENTRY OF WOODY AND HIS FRIENDS?

Toy Story 4 begins with Bonnie starting her orientation day on kindergarten, she is terrified, and Woody immediately notices that, so he goes with her to school, despite his fellow toys telling him not to. There, Woody, played by Tom Hanks, gets some «tools» for Bonnie, and she builds her new toy, Forky, played by Tony Hale, to whom she becomes immediately attached, even more than with Woody.

But Forky does not really understands that he is a Toy. And when he becomes lost on a road trip, is up to Woody to save him and get him back to Bonnie.

I must be honest… I was NOT expecting this movie, because I thought they did EVERYTHING with the Toy Story franchise. It ended in a perfect note. It could not be better, but when I saw there was indeed another movie, I thought…

«Really guys? For crying out loud!! The franchise is over. Leave it alone!!»

That was until I saw the trailer. When I saw Forky, I realised Toy Story never did something like him before. And also, I did not realise Bo was not in Toy Story 3 until then , so perhaps there was some hope. I even thought it will be cancelled.

But it was not!!! And I loved it!!!

I really liked Forky; he had a really good character development. I will not spoil anything, but the movie took the time to construct his transition from something done from «pieces» to an actual toy; I also loved Bo Peep. It cost me to believe that she was the same character from Toy Story 2. But you loved how she changed, why is she like that now, and also the all good chemistry with Woody. They really love each other, but the way the movie told their story was original and poignant, exactly the way it had to be done for Toy Story 4. Careful, I mean the way their story needed to be told FOR THE SAKE OF THE REST OF TOY STORY 4, not just a mere subplot.

Also, Buzz Lightyear, played by good old Tim Allen, really shines in his own way, making Toy Story 4 even more entertaining. In all the movies, Buzz contributes to give us a really powerful message. In the first movie, he is pinnacle of what it means to be a toy; in Toy Story 2, he represents the power of how important the toys are for Woody, and for each other, and Toy Story 3, he makes that hilarious «Spanish buzz» moment. And here… Well. Better to see it by yourself, because is better for you to make your own conclusions.

The same can be said for Jessie, played again by Joan Cusack, and the rest of the toy. Toy Story 4 really makes sure each of the characters have its moments, even if it is small ones.

Now, for the new cast, I really love Duke Caboom, played by… Keanu Reeves? HOLY COW!!! He was hilarious. I enjoyed everything about him; and I also enjoyed both Ducky and Bunny, played respectively by Keegan Michael-Key and… Jordan Peele? Now I understand the «imagination» of both of them. Like I said, check the movie and see it by yourself.

Finally, the performance of Christina Hendricks, as Gabby Gabby, is both emotional and surprising in her own merit. But, again, It’s better than you see it with your own eyes. And I am not saying this in a gratuitous way, there is a lot to say about Gabby Gabby, but if I do, I will definitely spoil everything for you. And I do not want that. It will be a sin.

Why again? Simple. Because the story unfolds in a way you cannot expect.

Also, that reminds me that, like its predecessors, Toy Story 4 has its own feelings of joy, comedy, hope… and fear. Yes. In Toy Story, we have Sid and his twisted mind towards toys, in Toy Story 2, we have Al McWhiggin and his malicious actions, and in Toy Story 3, we have Lots-O’-Huggin Bear and his «rule» over Sunnyside Daycare center. And you can expect something like that in Toy Story 4.

Finally, there is a really good montage at the beginning of the movie that, despite it does not free you from seeing the other movies to understand what Toy Story is all about, is really beautiful and helps to comprehend the characters and part of their motivations, and for those who already saw the previous movies, it brings you back to your childhood, to some of the greatest moments of your life.

I think all of this answers the question of the title.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, Toy Story 4 is a pretty entertaining movie, that is, without a doubt, at the same level of quality that all of its predecessors. A movie that proves that both quality and quantity that co-exist in harmony. A movie that you will always re-watch, and finally… a movie that continues to prove the incredible talent and passion that everyone in Pixar has.

Because that is what great movies do. Makes us re-watching them and revive the amazing feeling.

In simple words, make yourself comfortable, and enjoy this trip to infinity… And beyond!!!!!

JAINITUOS TRAILER REVIEWS – IT: CHAPTER 2 thoughts

Hey guys, I am bvack, after days of not writing an entry on my blog. I am so excited. But now, I am going to do something different.

Well… The title is self-explanatory. And yes… I saw the whole… darn trailer of IT – CHAPTER 2.

First and foremost, I need to tell you, my friends, that I watched the trailer once again. And I loved it even more. In fact, I could watch this amazing trailer for hours. Wanna know why? Because I adore IT – CHAPTER ONE. That was one of the few movies that I saw in cinemas that scared the hell out of me. It was nothing like the 1990s miniseries, starring Tim Curry as Pennywise. Not even the iconic roar of the shower scene scared me.

Creepy, yet silly and not that scary.

But Bill Skarsgard was the real deal. And the amazing direction of Andy Muschietti showed us one of the most iconic monsters created by Stephen King at its best. Since then, I was hyped by IT – CHAPTER TWO, especially after reading the news and watching the shots of the principal photography where you could see the adult versions of Bill Denbrough (James McAvoy), Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain), Richie Tozer (Bill Hader), Ben Hanscom (Jay Ryan), Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa), Eddie Kaspbrak (James Ransone), and Stan Uris (Andy Bean).

IT – CHAPTER ONE has a lot of iconic scenes and some of the best jumpscares I have ever seen in movies. I recognise that analysing all of them in this review will not be possible, especially since I will go of the topic; but the movie itself really got the atmosphere of Derry and the feeling of horror, uneasiness, vulnerability, despair, sadness and anxiety produced by some of Stephen King’s best novels (Pet Sematary, The Dark Tower, Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, Gerald’s Game, Misery, etc.), and the nostalgia of the 80’s in Derry. (Something that you can find in Stranger Things as well, one of my new favourites shows from Netflix).

You could say that I was practically dreaming with the trailer of IT – CHAPTER TWO.

With that said, let’s talk about the trailer.

IT – CHAPTER TWO (SPOILER WARNING)

The trailer stars with Beverly Marsh, played by Jessica Chastain, returning to her old house in Derry, after 27 years, where she is greeted by the actual owner, Mrs. Kersh, whose voice sounds really odd. Beverly stated that she used to leave in the house, the next shot presents young Beverly.

Mrs. Kersh invites Beverly to see the house; she finds the letter that Ben gave to her afterwards;

«Your hair is winter fire / January embers / My heart burns here too.»

While Beverly reads the postcard, Mrs. Kersh starts acting weird. And after a «casual» conversation about how it feels to live in Derry, and a very «interesting» smile from Mrs. Kersh, the latter tells Beverly that her father worked in the circus. Sadly, curiosity betrays Beverly as she immediately notices a photo that clearly says…

«THE GREAT PENNYWISE, THE DANCING CLOWN»

As well as Mrs. Kersh’s father, who looks very similar to Bill Skarsgard, and a naked Mrs. Kersh, which reminded the naked lady from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

Finally the truth of Mrs. Kersh is revealed with these simple words: Are you still his little girl, Beverly? in reference to Beverly’s abusive father. Mrs. Kersh/Pennywise attacks Beverly. And the trailer finished with a mix of the young and adult versions of the Losers’ Club, as well as the re-enactment of the iconic meeting at the Chinese restaurant, a terrified Richie, Bill reviving the memories of the tragic death of Georgie, a terrified Mike, and what seems to be the final battle.

The trailer ends with Pennywise «greeting» a new victim saying… «Hello.» and a sample of his famous laugh.

MY THOUGHTS

The trailer was just three minutes, but it definitely left an amazing impression of what to expect on IT – CHAPTER TWO, a great conclusion of one of the best adaptations of the novels of Stephen King, and one of my personal favourites, along with Carrie, Misery and The Shining. IT – CHAPTER ONE was an amazing movie, and I learn a lot from the story from Stephen King. And since the 1990 miniseries has its doses of violence, I expected IT – CHAPTER ONE to be more hardcore. And indeed I was not wrong.

Now, one of my questions for IT – CHAPTER TWO is… What would Maturin look like? How they will do the Ritual of Chüd? Ok. No need to ask this, but definitely I am hyped that these elements will have at least one mention.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, I really enjoyed the trailer of IT – CHAPTER TWO, and rest assured that I will be the one of the first ones to buy my ticket when the movie is released. Until then, I will joyfully embraced the sweet memories of one of the greatest horror movies of the 2010s.

Also… How come I am still not afraid of clowns?
