JAINITUOS ANIME REVIEWS – The God of High School – Episode One – First Impressions

The God of High School

Genre: Action, fighting, martial arts

Studio: MAPPA

Hello my friends.

Happy July to everybody. Many things have happened since the last two weeks, especially because, unfortunately, the COVID-19 cases have forced a complete lockdown in Victoria. Furthermore, during that time, I have been working in my special project, the one that I have been doing for years. But now, I have a small pause to write about a special element that is helping me to be strong toward the pandemic.

That element is Crunchyroll.

And now, after so many days, I finally watch a new Crunchyroll Original. We all know which one I am talking about, but I will do the proper introduction.

Let me introduce you:

But before I start, I want to give a very special message to people from Melbourne and Victoria.

«It’s making me really sad that the COVID-19 cases resurged. And thinking that we are going to a complete lockdown, after a lot of hard word, is absolutely discouraging. But… Do not despair. Remember that we are in all of this together, and we were able to beat the virus once. We will do it again. I have faith, just remember… follow the instructions of the doctors, and always spread the words of the experts. Hygiene is first. At the end, we will get through this. So… always have hope.»

After that, let’s start talking about The God of High School.

PREMISE

Based on the manhwa written by Yongjie Park, and published by Webtoon, The God of High School tells the Jin Mo-Ri, a 17-year old high schooler, who is invited to the tournament of the same name, in which the most powerful fighters all over South Korea are invited in order to prove which is the strongest. The tournament itself does not restrict any martial arts or any weapons, so you can be using swords or spears as well. Furthermore, the organisers of the tournament have stated that they will grant the champions any kind of desire or wish.

Small trivia. This part of the premise reminds me of…

Sorry. I couldn’t help to notice that similarity.

Anyway, Jin also has a couple of very good fighters at his side, Han Dae-wi, who is one of the best karateka in South Korea, and Yu Mi-Ra, a young fighter who wields a wooden sword. All of them, are going to participate in this tournament that will, definitely, change their lives.

Aside from that, The God of High School is animated by MAPPA, who, as we already know, is famous for making wacky anime as Kakegurui, Zombieland Saga, and one of my personal favourites.

Dorohedoro

At this point, I am already starting to see MAPPA studios as an expert on very wacky animation, in which the expressions and the body proportions of the characters are much deformed than before, or if preferred, longer than usual, mostly for comical purposes, and other times, for «epic» purposes. You can see that in Zombieland Saga and Kakegurui. And definitely The God of High School has the same attributes.

STORY

At very first sight, The God of High School start like any typical high school anime we are all familiar with. We have this excitable protagonist, in this case, Jin, that realises he is very late for a very important event. When I first say the episode, I thought that event was high school. Hey. He was wearing his uniform after all. Then, he rushes with this bike to the event, that is where he meets out lovely Yu.

My apologies. I still watch it in Spanish

Yu, who has a very obvious «preference» for muscles. In his way, Jin meets a burglar, and goes after him. After a series of wacky events, Yu and Jin meet. And we have time for this lovely guy who broascasts live and raps.

On one hand, I appreciate that he is using a facemask

Then, Han, who just finishes his shift at work, goes and luckily catches the thief. Just in time, so all of the three arrived to the tournament.

For some reason, I had a lot of fun watching the logos of Crunchyroll and Webtoon behind. I know both companies sponsor The God of High School, but I still thinks is really cute we have a bit of cameos.

Anyway, The last event is one of the sweetest battle royales any Crunchyroll Original could ever present. And then…

After it, I got some really good moments. The God of High School really kept this balance between action and comedy, especially through its animation, courtesy of MAPPA studios. Really good start.

CHARACTERS

Dude… what’s up with your nose?

Finally, The God of High School really presented well its characters, from Jin to this wacky host with his Monty Burns-like. every single character has a very nice moment to offer. One thing that really bugged me was the pupils of Jin. Every time I looked at him at the eyes, I feel weird. Just look at him.

I hope it is only me. Because, with Princess Hibana, the shaped-pupils look great.

Anyway, the characters of The God of High School are really getting me excited, in the same way Tower of God did, as well as Leviathan. I said it once, and I will say it again… Korean talent has great stories and proposals for the fans.

I hope that Crunchyroll Originals keep coming for the months to come.

CONCLUSION

I know see that The God of High School has a lot of potential. And I can’t wait until next week to see the next episode, as long as the pupils of Jin don’t stare at it. Or else… they will take my soul. Until next week. I will sim;y go back with Princess Hibana.

Especially for the new episode of Fire Force, season 2.

I better be prepared.

Yes, my princess.

HABEMUS BATMAN!!! ROBERT PATTINSON – My Own Thoughts

Hey Guys. Welcome again to another entry of my blog. And I want to thanks Irina for her positive feedback on my previous entries of Lupin The Third.

Don’t worry Irina. More is about to come.

But right now. I want to do something different. I just came back from work, when I saw one of the news I was expecting official Confirmation.

«ROBERT PATTINSON IS BATMAN»

And I could help but give my own opinion of this interesting news. So here it is.

Robert Pattinson as Batman? Are you f»<king kidding me? Edward Cullen as Batman? He sucks!!! What have you done? YOU GUYS RUINED BATMAN!!! I HATE ALL! THANKS FOR DESTROYING ONE OF THE GREATEST SUPERHEROES OF HISTORY.

BYE, AND F#*K YOU, YOU A***OLES!!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

«NAH» JUST KIDDING!!! JUST KIDDING!!!

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

I will never do this. I just wanted to be a troll for a couple of minutes. I felt… Naughty!! LOL!!!

But seriously. Here are my real thoughts.

«A NEW DARK KNIGHT RETURNS»

First and foremost. I saw Twilight, and despite not being my favourite movie, I can say that Robert Pattinson gave his best for the role; moreover, I am glad to be aware that Pattinson was also in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory, which I think was a really good experience for his career.

Secondly, I read some days ago that some websites were already declaring Robert Pattinson as the New Batman, apparently replacing Ben Affleck, all for the new standalone movie called The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. I, personally, decided to hear the word from Warner Bros before getting excited, or disappointed, especially since I read that Nicholas Hoult (X-men Film series and Mad Max: Fury Road), was apparently competing for the role.

And just two hours ago, I received the other news. It was official!!!

THE NEW BATMAN IS NOT BRUCE WAYNE… IS ROBERT PATTINSON.

For me, this is a really amazing news. I am so excited to see Robert Pattinson in the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, especially because, as Pattinson is 33 years old, that’s means we can see a new version of Batman.

As a comic book character, Batman has many versions and identities, especially because he does not have any superpowers; mostly, Batman relies on his intelligence, perseverance and egalitarianism. And is not just in the comics, in the movies, that is visible too.

But before going in detail with this last statement, I want to make a reflexion in the next segment, which I called…

«THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT»

I can’t really predict on how most of the fans will react with the casting of Robert Pattinson as Batman. Furthermore, I can’t tell whether or not he will be a good Batman based on his previous filmography. However, we cannot forget that this is not the first time a casting like this blew our minds.

Remember when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman for the DC Extended Universe? I think that Internet went ballistic. Most of the fans wanted to exclude him for the role, possibly because that disastrous movie called Daredevil, or his embarrassing moments with Jennifer Lopez. Tell me. What kind of person calls off a wedding like both did? Anyway, I was one of ther people who thought that was a terrible idea. I LOATHED BEN AFFLECK! AS AN ACTOR AND AS A PERSON!! But after seeing Argo and Gone, Baby Gone, I saw his talent and expertise as a filmmaker; moreover I noticed some maturity from him, so I began respecting him more and more, especially after Affleck admitted his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil was «kinda silly».

And I was looking forward to see him as Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. and to be honest… He did not disappointed me at all!! He did pretty good!! He was convincing as both Batman and Bruce Wayne. In fact, I will go as far as call this one of his best performances, regardless of the quality of the movie.

Overall, we also have a wholesale of example of controversial castings. Remember Heath Ledger (R.I.P.) as the Joker? Daniel Craig as James Bond? Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man? Michael Keaton as Batman? Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman? All of them were hugely controversial; yet, at the end of the day, all of them gave marvellous performances that are now considered pivotal in the history of their respective characters!!

I would say that the lesson here is that we, the fans, must always give the actors, and actresses, the benefit of the doubt. At the end of the day, they are also human beings, with the possibility of learning from their mistakes, and bringing delightful stories that we will always enjoy, regardless how many years pass.

And Robert Pattinson is no exception. The fact that he was Edward Cullen is no longer relevant. And I believe that Pattinson can be not only a great Batman, but also one of the most remembered of the history of cinema. Time will tell.

«THE MANY FACES OF BATMAN IN TV AND MOVIES»

Finally, I want to go back to what I mentioned about Batman having different versions and identities, especially in the movies.

You guys might not believe it, but every single actor that took the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman gave his own vision of the character, from Tim Burton to Zack Snyder. I will give you my interpretation of those.

ADAM WEST – SILLY, YET NOBLE AND RIGHTEOUS

MICHAEL KEATON – MYSTERIOUS, HERMETIC AND RESOURCEFUL

VAL KILMER – MATURE AND STOIC… I THINK.

GEORGE CLOONEY – ATROCIOUS AND… BUTTMAN!! TITSMAN!!! (Sorry Georgie Boy!)

CHRISTIAN BALE – CHARMING PLAYBOY, BUT WILLING TO OVERCOME HIMSELF.

BEN AFFLECK – EMBITTERED, YET WITH A GREAT DEAL OF HUMANITY

In addition, from Adam West to Ben Affleck, all of these actors were between 35 and 40 years old by the time they played Batman, with the exception of Christian Bale, who was 31 when Batman Begins was released in 2005. Speaking of Batman Begins, that movie really redefined the origins of Batman, at least for me. Before Batman Begins, I never saw Bruce Wayne willing to travel «a thousand miles» to understand the criminal mind and fight crime. Yeah, I know that Batman, The Animated Series have episodes in which Bruce Wayne travels all over the world to become The Caped Crusader, but in the series, it was implied. Based on The Mask of the Phantasm, the intention of Bruce Wayne was to become strong enough to fight crime. He becomes Batman afterwards.

Batman Begins, on the other hand, shows how the journey of Bruce Wayne was for the purpose of becoming Batman at the end. My point is that, in terms of history and character, Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan gave a pretty original interpretation of Batman, more «modern» to say the least, different from what Tim Burton did in both Batman and Batman Returns.

So, perhaps, with both Robert Pattinson as Batman, and Matt Reeves as the writer and director, there is the extremely likely possibility to show another face of Batman, a more «detective» one; from my viewpoint, all the previous movies of Batman, including The Dark Knight Trilogy has shown Batman more as a honourable vigilante, and less as the World’s Greatest Detective.

Reeves himself has stated he is aware of this, and he wants for The Batman to be more detective-like and film noir-esque. Can you guys imagine a perspective like that for Batman? Perhaps something based on Batman: Year One, or Batman: Arkham Origins, with a more violent and impulsive Batman.

Batman’s early years at their finest.

That would be great, and I am convinced that the fans will welcome Reeves’s vision as they welcomed Nolan’s vision more than ten years ago. But, personally, I would like to see the batman from The Flashpoint Paradox (SPOILER ALERT – THAT BATMAN IS THOMAS WAYNE). Okay, this last part is very unlikely, but, in the words of Professor Farnsworth.

«A man can dream though. A man can dream.»

So what do you guys think? Are you excited to see Robert Pattinson as Batman? Would you give him the benefit of the doubt? I definitely will.

Let me know your thoughts, and we will be in touch.

Thanks for stepping by. See you around.

JAINITUOS TRAILER REVIEWS – Spider-man: Far From Home (Spoilers ahead)

Hey Guys. It is good to be back, even though if it is only one since I updated my blog. However this is a new experiment that I am doing right now. Just like I did yesterday with the trailer of IT – CHAPTER TWO, today I am doing the trailer of the upcoming conclusion of the Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

«SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME»

First and foremost, I point out that the same feeling I got with IT – CHAPTER TWO, is the same one for SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME. I was hyped!!!!! Because I loved the first Spiderman MCU movie (excluding Captain America: Civil War), I mean Spider-man: Homecoming, so much that I barely could wait for the sequel, especially since the director, Jon Watts, and most of the cast, including Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori and Hemky Madera are back; and the movie was introducing Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal.

Furthermore, I loved Michael Keaton as the vulture in Homecoming, so when Marvel Studios announced that Gyllenhaal was in talks to be in Far From Home, I got my own suspicions, I prefer to wait until Marvel confirmed that we was in the movie, which reminded me a funny anecdote from Suicide Squad, but I will get there later.

Having said that, let’s start with the review.

LIFE AFTER AVENGERS: ENDGAME

I decided to title the next section like this for two reasons. Spider-man: Far From Home officially takes place after Avengers: Endgame, and this was confirmed to us in the funniest way possible. That Spider-Man: Far From Home was a long «post-credit scene» for Avengers: Endgame. Here is the link, so you guys can check it out.

It is good that this is the case, because if the movie was a prequel for Avengers: Infinity War, that will surely be a big letdown; we couldn’t that Spidey will be fine.

The second reason is perfectly explained by Tom Holland himself:

«If you haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame yet, stop watching, because there are some serious spoilers about to come up»

And there are. The first one… NORI NAM SI DAED. YNOT KRATS DEID NEHW EH DESU EHT YTINFINI SMEG OT ETARGETNISID SONAHT DNA SIH YMRA. DNA RETEP YLLAER SESSIM MIH.

Yet, Peter Parker/Spider-man continues his life, fighting crime in New York, and then going on a vacation. Oh, and he keeps the Iron Spider Suit. Peter spends time avoiding Nick Fury and going to Venice… until Nick Fury finds him (In a way that, somehow, reminds of Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

Shortly, Peter meets Quentin Beck, a.k.a. Mysterio, who reveals he comes from, in the words of Nick Fury, «Earth, but not ours.» (Apparently EARTH-833, at least, according to the comics)Anyway, Mysterio and SHIELD ask Spider-man to stop the Elementals, who come to our Earth following Thanos’s actions in Avengers: Infinity War (Sorry guys, I do not want to spoil too much for those who haven’t seen the movie yet). Spider-man reluctantly agrees, especially after Nick Fury tells him that Thor is «off-world» and Captain Marvel in unavailable.

Then we got a really funny moment between MJ, played by Zendaya, and Peter, and the former asks him whether or not he is Spider-man, pointing that is pretty obvious. This might be a signal of a really great chemistry between both characters.

And, before the official title is revealed, Peter and Beck talk about heroics and sacrifice, another signal of the tone of the movie. I really liked, because it follows some of the motivation of Peter throughout his movies; while in Homecoming, he tries to prove himself toward Tony Stark, in Far From Home, Peter will have to prove his worthy toward himself.

Of course, that is my personal opinion.

And the trailer ends with a funny joke between Flash Thompson and Happy Hogan.

FT: You worked for Spider-man?

HH: I worked WITH Spider-man. NOT FOR Spider-man

And that is the trailer.

MY THOUGHTS

As previously mentioned, Spider-man: Far From Home is the last movie of the Phase Three of the MCU, and the conclusion of The Infinity Saga. In other words, it’s just one era of the MCU, and after the movie, especially if you have seen the trailer, the possibilities are endless for the upcoming movies. And this is practically an under-statement. The recent acquisition of 21st Century Fox from Disney expands the MCU even more, because X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool can be used in the future without restrictions. And yes, I know Kevin Feige himself stated that we will not see X-Men in the MCU for, at least, five years, but we can always dream. Who knows? Perhaps the next big villain, the successor of Thanos, will be Kang the Conqueror, Galactus, Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants, Annihilus, Kree, and perhaps Ultron (He is a very powerful artificial intelligence). So we can rest calmly by knowing that this statement is real:

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Far From Over (pun-intended)

On the other hand, is hard to believe that Mysterio, one of the most iconic villains of Marvel, is working with Spider-man. Let’s not forget that Mysterio is a master of deceit, so his intentions might be sinister than we can think. Nevertheless, it is fantastic to see Jake Gyllenhaal as the character, especially since Gyllenhaal himself was considered as Rick Flag in Suicide Squad after Tom Hardy dropped out from the project due to scheduling conflicts. Furthermore, after Ant-Man, the villains from MCU have become more and more multi-layered (i.e. Helmut Zemo, Vulture, Erik Killmonger, Ghost, Hel), and we will definitely see a memorable antagonist in Mysterio, just like Loki and Thanos. Or if not, a fantastic anti-hero (i.e. The Winter Soldier, Nebula).

Also, if you guys have seen the very ending of Spider-man: Homecoming, you remember what happened (SPOILERS – TNUA YAM REKRAP SREVOCSID TAHT RETEP SI SPIDER-MAN). If Far From Home constructs this relationship well, I think we will enjoy it too, just like in the previous movie.

CONCLUSION

Spider-man: Far from Home has a lot of potential. It might be too soon to tell, but perhaps we are in front of another great Spider-man movie. I have a lot of faith, because nowadays Spider-man in film is doing great, with Spider-man, Spider-man 2, Spider-man: Homecoming, Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, as examples… (You guys mind if I put Spider-man 3 and Venom as an honourable mentions?

However, at the end of the day, time will tell if Spider-man: Far From Home is another great movie, not just of our Friendly Neighbour, but also of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
