JAINITUOS ANIME REVIEWS – Science fell in love, so I tried to prove it – First Impressions

Science fell in love, so I tried to prove it.

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Studio: Zero-G

Hey Guys,

Welcome to another review,

And today, I am talking about an anime that has gotten my attention for the last days. To be honest, I haven’t seen too much Crunchyroll this week, but luckily I had a lot of fun with this particular series, and I think it is a perfect opportunity to share my own thoughts.

And that anime is…

Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shōmei Shite Mita

But before I continue, I must ask you:

Are you guys ok? Keeping yourselves healthy?

If the answer is yes, then I am happy. And again:

KEEP SAFE FROM COVID-19

And since we are talking about an anime with scientists as main characters, with all the more reason to keep an eye to the coronavirus

Anyway, let’s start with the review.

PREMISE

Based on the manga written by Alifred Yamamoto (What an interesting name), Science Fell in Love (Yeah… I will keep it short), tells the story of college students, Shinya Yukimura and Ayame Himuro, who fell in love with each other, but, keeping loyal to their professions, have become obsessed to explain «the science of falling in love», and from there, we got a lot of wacky experiments on an attempt of proving that loves has a scientific explanation, all in an ongoing number of volumes that show how Yukimura and Himuro deal with the awkwardness of their own feelings, under the following question:

«Is it possible to explain something complicated like love using a mathematical approach?»

In other words, imagine that you combine the same premise of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, and two characters who have the same mentality of Senku Ishigami…

And we got these two.

The anime is in charge of Studio Zero-G, famous for creating Grand Blue and My Roommate is a Cat, really funny stories, and it consists in a season of 12 episodes. To be honest, I feel pretty happy that this studio is the one behind this story, because it has proved that it can do really good comedic stories focused in an original premise; someday, I really want to do a review about Grand Blue, which gave me a lot of laughs.

But, for now, let’s focus in Science fell in Love

STORY

Okay. I will start with this simple statement.

«Trying to prove love with science has a lot of weird possibilities»

In other words, I don’t think you can explain falling in love with science; even if you are a psychologist, the laws of science might not apply there, because human psychology works completely different than human anatomy. And I can tell you that, because I studied psychology at university.

Sorry about that. I wanted to mention it as a trivia.

Anyway, because of this, I believe that this is a very interesting motor for many comedic stories, especially from characters like Shinya and Ayame. And this is exactly what happened here. Personally, Kaguya-sama: Love is War is one of my favourite anime, because it is pretty original, funny, and has likeable characters, and if you like Kaguya-sama, you will definitely love Science Fell in love, for it is basically the same, but with scientists.

Yet, there is a lot of dynamism in each episode that keeps you very interested in the multiple theories of our main protagonists. On the other hand, I don’t think fans will agree with Ayame and Shinya when it it about trying to explain falling in love with science. Nevertheless, far from being an miss, it is a hit, because our scientists are trying to prove their theories, and every single experiment completely backfires, making  really entertaining episodes. And none of the final results are identical, so you can always enjoy a different outcome, as well as understanding our characters even more.

Furthermore, just like Kaguya-sama: Love is War; Science Fell in love has a great feel-good atmosphere, because at no point Ayame and Shinya are in danger. No. We feel happy that, as they try to prove their feelings, both seem to have fun, and there is always an empathy with those. So every episode can be as enjoyable as the last one.

Especially if you like Kaguya-sama: Love is War.

Another thing that I enjoy is that the animation is pretty good. I liked the bright colours, especially because I think it perfectly portrays the same environment scientists work. This is definitely a secondary point, but something you will enjoy as well.

Finally, since every episode brings a new theory, you don’t need to see the last one in order to understand the whole story. Of course, if you want to enjoy the series to the fullest, I will suggest to see all the twelve episodes, for there is always new comedic moments to share with this characters.

Speaking of the characters…

CHARACTERS

Aside from Ayame and Shinya, we got a bunch of colourful characters, including the «sane» girl Kanade Kotonoha, the petite and lazy Ena Ibarada, our otaku boy, Kosuke Inukai, and our lovely pet…

Because… Very few comedy anime will work if doesn’t have a very cute mascot. But every single character really contributes to Science Fell in love in a very charming way; case in point, Ayame and Shinya with their own personalities. However, I want to give an honourable mention to Kanade, for she has a very good chemistry with Ayame. In the first episode, Kanade completely opposes to the idea of Ayame of trying to explain falling in love with science, to the point of being ludicrous.

Just a preview of what is about to come.

Again, all the more reason for Kaguya-sama fans to give a try to Science Fell in Love, especially if they like the chemistry between Kaguya and Chika.

Overall, Science fell in Love, so I tried to prove it is an enjoyable series that you can always check out at Crunchyroll. I still think that falling in love cannot be explained with science, regardless its power; but many fans, both of anime and science, will enjoy this series for the sake of their respective passions, or just if you just wants to learn more about things bore you at high school. LOL

In any case, go to Crunchyroll, and have fun with these two adorable scientists.

Now, since the review is done, I just have a question:

Is this the equation that explains why anime is so awesome?
